Imghrane is a remarkable region nestled in the heart of the Moroccan Atlas Mountains and the upper Draa Valley, where ancient Amazigh traditions meet stunning natural landscapes. Located in the Ouarzazate Province within the administrative region of Drâa-Tafilalet, this area has been home to Amazigh communities for over a millennium.
The Imghrane Tribe - Historical Heritage
The Imghrane (Imarhrane) tribe is a distinguished Amazigh confederation with deep historical roots in the Draa Valley region. According to historical records, the tribe is traditionally organized into five main groupings (khoms):

Geographic Context
The Imghrane region spans two main communes in Ouarzazate province, part of the Drâa-Tafilalet administrative region:
- Imi N’Oulaoune Commune - The largest commune containing most of the Five Khoms
- Toundoute Commune - Including the historic village of Toundoute and surrounding areas

The Name “Imghrane”
In Tamazight (Amazigh language), “Imghrane” means “the elders” or “the wise ones”. This name reflects our deep respect for ancestral wisdom, tribal governance traditions, and accumulated knowledge passed down through generations in the harsh but magnificent environment of the Atlas Mountains.
